TCP/IP - A whole suite of programs

TCP/IP is a whole collection of utilities. Successful troubleshooting often relies on choosing the right tool for the job. Also check out my Windows 2000 configuration ebook, it has a whole section on TCP/IP.

The two classic troubleshooting utilities are :

Ping. N.B. There is now a 'sister' program called PathPing
Ipconfig Now with more switches

The following can loosely be called routing protocols

TraceRT and (Route Print)
NSLookup (very difficult)
ARP

Some you may know already

FTP (TFTP)
HTTP
IP (Itself!)
Telnet

Two utilities that you may confuse

NBTSTAT
NetStat

Two Pure transport
